
Jonathan O. Davis Scholarship Awarded
Humboldt State University graduate student Ronna Bowers has been awarded the Desert Research Institute’s $3,750 Jonathan O. Davis National Scholarship in Quaternary Sciences for 2003 for her research proposal involving an ancient lake in Lassen County, Calif. UNR Ph.D. candidate Kelly Graf won the $1,450 Davis Stipend for her proposal to conduct geoarchaeological studies of a prehistoric Native American rockshelter.
DRI scientist Jonathan O. Davis,
a prominent geologist and geoarchaeologist, died in an auto accident near Reno
in 1990. The memorial scholarship, administered by DRI’s Quaternary Sciences
Center, is open to graduate students enrolled in an M.S. or Ph.D. program at
any United States university and supports field research concerning Quaternary
geology of the Great Basin or surrounding areas. The stipend is open to graduate
students enrolled in a geologyrelated M.S. or Ph.D. program at the University
of Nevada, Reno.
