Dinner Honors Renowned Microbiologist

A record crowd of nearly 450 attended the 11th Annual Nevada Medal Dinner at Caesars Palace on April 23, where Dr. Lynn Margulis received DRI's most prestigious award, the Nevada Medal. Margulis, a renowned microbiologist internationally known for her research on the evolution of small forms of life, received the Nevada Medal from Governor Bob Miller.

The dinner, co-chaired by Governor Miller and First Lady Sandy Miller, raised nearly $60,000 for DRI. For the first time, the event also included a silent auction of "science adventures" to many exciting places around the country and world. Each adventure centered on DRI research.

Many special thanks go out to the Millers for their support over the past decade, Nevada Bell for sponsoring the Nevada Medal award, and all who contributed to the dinner and silent auction.

Nevada Medal co-chairs Sandy and Bob Miller were thanked for their many years of support of the Nevada Medal program. Part of the recognition included lifetime tickets to all futre Nevada Medal dinners.
